Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

What a church can do with their money.

The implications of this sort of thing are kind of amazing. I hope to hear what you think.

P.S. Let me know if this link breaks. Thanks.

This is eye-opening. I was kind of pleased that a church could do this, but cautiously so. This could really cause more turmoil in the world for proclaimed religious groups to force their political agendas with financial threats. As if the political arena weren't complicated enough. We have more rich church organizations than ever before in history who can put their two cents in or out to sway things in favor of their agendas.

I don't think the LDS church works in quite this way, at least not currently. In fact, they periodically read a statement from the First Presidency reiterating that the church does not endorse any political party. However, when they do speak out on political matters, members are very quick to respond and follow council, which is where their political power lies.

I'm very far from being a political analyst, so I can't realistically see where the scenario in the article could lead. But I could make up a fun conspiracy story about it.
